What is HR.Salon?
The concept of a "salon" dates back to 17th and 18th century Europe, where they emerged as intimate gatherings of minds in the homes of influential hosts. These intellectual forums brought together diverse thinkers to exchange ideas freely, outside the constraints of formal institutions and hierarchies. Notable salons became crucibles for innovation, where ideas could be refined through spirited discourse and respectful challenge.
HR.Salon carries this tradition into our modern professional context. Just as historical salons fostered movements that shaped culture and politics, we believe our conversations can meaningfully influence the evolution of workplace practices and human resources philosophy.
How to Make the Most Out of Your Attendance
Share Openly
The best way to prepare for the next HR.Salon event is to be up to date as a professional. Be aware and start formulating your thoughts around the current topics weaving through the HR field. Follow key influencers, read trade publications, and keep your mind open to new possibilities.
Here are a few more things to keep in mind:
- Format: Our sessions typically begin with a brief introduction to the salon and how it works. The Curator will present the opening topic, and the group will move into breakout rooms to discuss.
- Confidentiality: What's discussed in the salon stays in the salon. This confidentiality creates the psychological safety needed for authentic conversation.
- Participation: While there's no pressure to speak, we encourage everyone to contribute their perspectives. Sometimes the most valuable insights come from differing disciplines.
- Evolution: Please note that the format may change from session to session. Especially as emergent changes in the workplace and HR come to the forefront there may be unique opportunities to improve the experience by adjusting the flow.
- Connection: Between sessions, members are encouraged to connect through LinkedIn and via phone/virtual conference. The influence of the salon is magnified when the ideas discussed here meet the real world.
